Today is my dog Angel's birthday. She is 12. She has been my shining light the whole time, showing me the way to be loving and live life right. This is also the 16-year anniversary of my moving to California.

Today's 365 focuses on "Great Shine," Tune 5 off my new CD, "Gift To Be Alive." I wrote "Great Shine" after getting off a plane from Jersey, after flying through the skies. I am inspired a lot at that time. I like to write on planes too sometimes. Blowski picked me up and brought me bac to The Blowski Compound in OB. I sat and wrote and felt inspired and didn't get up until the whole tune was done. That is my recollection. We have been playing it since 2008.

This version of "Great Shine," was filmed at The Belly Up Tavern on August 19, 2009.

So I bent it in this direction. Yes, my beloved black dog, Angel is 12 today. It's been an amazing 12 years with my beloved poochesa. I read the wikipedia about "Black Dog." It was named after a black dog near the studio. I also learned it has complex time changes and it really hard to play. Not my version. Slowed-down, down beat and loving. That's what I aimed for here. Cheers to Kip on the bass on my couch. I love Angel the dog. She is my bestest amiga. She is my flizeppo.

It occurred to me today for the first time that everyone is not out there trying to be the best person they can be. I do. Like some people try to accumulate money, I try to do the right thing as much as possible and closer to being the best me possible. It is part of the point of life as I see it. Also, I go out in public and I act like myself. I know, some, perhaps many folks do this, but it occurred to me today, that others just go out and act the way they thing they should... to fit in or for whatever reason. That is not for me. I am myself, for better or for worse. I try to be true to that and do things that feel right for me, things I can feel good about. I think how we act matters. I believe we all share this world and have a commitment to leaving it etter than we found it. Treating people kindly, acting in love these are fundamental essentials to a life like this. Not hurting other people, any more than is absolutely necessary. Anyway, "Great Shine" means
radiate positivity, live in love.

Pople criticize the Occupy movement cause they say they have no leadership, that they don't know what to do. These are the types of directions they need to go. Simple idealistic pursuits about they way people treat other people and the way we all treat the place we call home. Simple old fashioned. Basic stuff. Starting form the beginning based in love. Doing the right thing and so on and so forth
