Operation 365... Take 19

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Covers - 24 "Silver Bells" popularized by Bing Crosby

"Silver Bells" is a beautiful Christmas song. In researching this I learned it was written by these two dudes, Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, but popularized by these two more famous dudes, Bing Crosby and Bob Hope. I personally have really been enjoying crooning lately. So this is fun. Crooning is one of the many things missing from our modern society that had in no way outlived its usefulness before being shuffled aside. How is we still have reality TV but not crooning? Well I croon. That's why I busted out the "Can't Help Falling In Love" this week and am currently seeking "Winter Wonderland" in a key that makes warm and silky in side. Cause that's what good crooning does.

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Originals - 24 "Cage"

Replacement tune was "Cage" which like "Killing's Wrong" is found on my CD, "Blue; A Kid's Album," available at www.jeffersonjay.com. Maybe you wanna buy one for someone for the holidays. Hint. In seriousness, I have been working with some really inspiring students teaching special ed. at the high school as of late. These children's attitudes are amazing and the spirits are inspiring and irrepressible despite whether they are in a wheelchair or drool or can't speak or will never live what most people consider a normal life. When I wrote this song it was along the thinking that anything can be a cage, but mainly I was considering mental cages. These kids' cages are largely physical cages, but as I think about it, if one doesn't feel they have a cage, then they don't. I guess that was the point of the song the whole time.

Oh, a trivial note; the chords to the song are C a G E the whole time. Inspiration comes all over the place. How cute.

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Archives - 24 Don Truesdail - "The Bastards" - 12-18-2008

It is Day Four of our "12 Days of Truesdail" and it doesn't get more special or Truesdail-y than this. This video is from Don Truesdail's final public performance two years ago to the day from this posting, December 18, 2008. This track "The Bastards" was performed with Misha Borisovsky on violin, Amadou Fall on kora and The Soul Man on guiro. It was a beautiful performance, one of his finest and the vibe that was in the air that night was on one of love, friendship and appreciation. Enjoy Don Truesdail, a great man and a fine performer in his swan song. We love you Don!

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Outtakes - 24 "Killing's Wrong"

This will probably happen again as I continue down this road, but just now for the first time I recorded a tune for Operation 365 a second time without realizing. It only took 24 days. Killing's Wrong. You win. I played you twice without realizing. Debating posting the second one as a bonus track.

Bonus to Operation 365. Another version of my absurdist protest classic "Killing's Wrong." I improvise all the verses each time so it is what it is, literally.
