Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay - Archives - 44 Jillian Doty - 8-13-2008

Operation 365 presents "The Soulful Songstress," Jillian Doty from Joe and Jen Stevens' wedding on August 13, 2008. Jillian, now a mother of two/wife/roller derby queen in Arizona, is a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter. Here she sings a Gaelic jam to the bride Jen Stevens before busting into one of her own hits. She mentioned that she was a little under the weather but I love her spirit and the way she powers through it. Those skills must come in real handy at the Roller Derby rink. When I was young roller derby was fake, like wrestling. I heard it's real now. That's crazy. I don't know but that would be some pretty violent stuff.

This clip was filmed my deal pal Dylan Avery. These were great days and times. This is the 44th day of Operation 365. I am a big sports fan and #44 is powerful number in sports. Reggie Jackson, Yankee slugger of my childhood, and Hank Aaron, baseball's all-time home run king (until Bonds), both proudly wore 44. So having Jillian here at 44, is a testament to her power as a "hitter." Roller derby girls, look out!

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay (with Paul Ruiz) - Covers - 44 "Monkey In Your Soul" by Steely Dan

Not much work as a substitute teacher these days, he said both sadly and gladly. Instead, he sits doing what he loves with his friend (talented trumpeter Paul Ruiz), thinking about songs about monkeys. I believe as of today, monkeys have not yet been affected by the animals dropping to mass death everywhere fiasco, that Fox News said was nothing to be concerned about. Notice fair and balanced never mentions honesty or accuracy. Fair to who?

Anyway, there are a lot of great songs about monkeys and here, Paul and I played one and for tomorrow's jam, we've played another. Brass Monkey, that would be a cool one to do too. According to a friend on Facebook, Adam Yauch is cancer-free now. Congratulations Yauch. Now what are we going to do about all these dead birds, fish... and monkeys????

NOTE: I haven't gone on much about youtube's attempts to undermine Operation 365 by suggesting I add demeaning tags to my videos and then laughing at me endlessly as I repeatedly take their suggestions. But this one could not go any longer without something being said. youtube keeps suggesting I add "contralto vocals" to videos I sing on. Well, I had to look up what it meant and here's what I found out. It means "the lowest female singing voice" Listen up youtube, I'm a man. Get it straight. And yes, I'll keep "accepting" your "suggestions" but don't get any funny ideas that this makes us friends. We were friends. I trusted you and you betrayed that trust by calling my Asian friends Asian, by calling me a woman and by telling me to put christianity and fake words like "tenis" into the tags on my videos. So youtube, you're on alert. Grrrrrr....

Operation 365 - Jefferson Jay (with Paul Ruiz) - Originals - 44 "Begin Belivin' Today"

"Begin Belivin' Today" is another product of the Summer Songburst of 2010. I quite like this tune. it's real simple as many fine tunes are. It is upbeat, positive and it makes me happy. As does Paul Ruiz, the man playing trumpet beside me. Hail Schweebus and hail Ruiz!
